Renewable Energy

Argentina’s resources, capacity and potential combine to place the country in a privileged position to supply the growing global demand for renewable energies.

Global sustainability
The market for renewable energy sources is booming. Between 2004 and 2008, global investments in this sector quadrupled, reaching US$ 120 billion. Sustained demand and trade growth reflects the implementation of incentive policies around the world. As of 2009, over 73 countries had set targets for renewable energy use, while 64 countries had already adopted incentive policies to encourage renewable energy generation. Over 50 countries have set biofuel utilization targets that in many cases exceed domestic production capacity, further fueling global trade expectations. Argentina’s public policies to promote the development of renewable energy sources are in line with world trends.
Local capacity
Argentina is one of the world’s leading producers and exporters of biofuels. Moreover, given the country’s wealth of natural and technological resources, Argentina has the potential to become a world leader in terms of wind energy production, the development of second and third generation biofuels, solar power, wave and geothermal energy, and the generation of energy from biogas, biomass and hydroelectricity.
Extensive experience and qualified human resources
The development of renewable and clean energies in Argentina relies not only on the country’s extraordinary natural resources and its longstanding industrial tradition, but also on the availability of highly qualified human resources in the areas of engineering and biotechnology. Several local companies already are offering their expertise and experience in biofuel production and wind energy generation, wind turbines and hydroelectric plants as well as other related services throughout Latin America as well as other parts of the world.
